Prepare to be enchanted by "Cozy Modern Nook," one of my latest passion projects crafted during my free time. This project is a visual marvel, boasting stunning renders captured from a fully baked scene without the need for ray tracing. No post-processing magic—just the raw beauty of Unreal Engine itself. But that's not all.
This project holds a special place in my heart, as it has been a transformative journey of learning and growth. Let's delve into the captivating process behind "Cozy Modern Nook":
Modeling in 3D Studio Max: I began by meticulously crafting the interior model, setting the stage for the cozy ambiance I envisioned.
Asset Acquisition and Unwrapping: Next, I scoured various websites for 3D models to populate my scene. Each asset was carefully unwrapped using RizomUV and 3Ds Max UVW unwrap, ensuring seamless integration into the environment.
FBX Usage and Lightmap Creation: Instead of Datasmith, I opted for FBX files, allowing me to create custom lightmaps for select furniture pieces like sofas and beds. This decision was critical for baking the scene flawlessly.
Optimization for Real-time Performance: With the objective of maximizing FPS in mind, I forwent ray tracing and employed the Old GPU Light Baker by Luoshuang. This strategic choice ensures a smooth real-time experience for viewers.
Software Arsenal: Leveraging tools like 3DS Max, Unreal Engine 4.26.2, Substance Painter, RizomUV, and Photoshop (for texture fixes), I honed my craft and brought my vision to life.
Though the journey hasn't been without its challenges—I faced a setback with my YouTube account being hacked and content deleted—I'm resilient and determined to share my creations anew. This experience has been a profound lesson in perseverance and adaptability, fueling my growth as an artist and individual.
